I always believed that cars have this special connection with its owners. Not sure if any of you experienced this, but each time we mention that we want to sell our car, they somehow have a feeling that they will be disowned by us anytime soon. That’s when the minor problem begins. Thing is, we’ve been thinking of putting our car up for sale. Yeap, the 2-door-love-of Darren’s life, because she’s almost becoming a teenager in age, and also, he’s been having his eye on an Italian bella. Minor problems started 2 weeks ago, when warning lights that we didnt know exist started lighting up on the panels.

Darren has great passion for cars that he likes. This has been a car that he’s been searching high and low for, finally found it and now owns it. For a car this age, I must say it’s been well taken of. He can have a cough or cold for the longest time without visiting the doctors, but as soon as he hears an alien sound coming out from the car, in goes the car to our mechanic’s shop.

Yesterday, just before I packed up to leave the office, I got a call and he told me that someone had hit him from behind. Looks minor, but sounded major literally. When he started the car to drive to the workshop, it sounded like a motor-boat! Yeap, the exhaust system was affected. Our evening was ruined, having to make ourselves present at the Traffic Police station to make our report.

While driving behind his “wheeled ride”, Darren said that this car is definitely for keeps. Looks gorgeous even on the tow truck. I’m not sure what he’s gonna do to the car, but I’m glad that nobody was hurt in this mishap, and hope that the other car would learn to look and pay attention on the road, and brake on time too.

Read that right! On Monday, daddy made a remark that Ian was a little like an ahpek wanting to wipe his nose and watery eyes with a towel instead of tissues, and also said “Ian’s kinda cute doing that”. Almost instantly, he put the towel on his table, and pointed to Daddy, “I’m not Cute!” in a very stern voice. After that, he looked tired then lay on his bed and fell asleep. We both laughed and went “he’s grown up, he can argue”. But I still think he’s cute.

Our 34 month old monster has been down with the flu bug since Monday. He’s been cranky, grumpy and attention seeking during the past three days. After 2 days of trying to self heal, I brought him to the paed, to have him checked and to get some fresh medication. The ones in my fridge were from April 06, when the same bug visited. After RM52 and 3 types of medication, he seemed okay, talked but knocked out after his first dose of medicine.

Needless to say, I’ve not been sleeeping well. Waking up each time I hear Ian cough…. just don’t want him to accidently vomit then sleep in a pool of puke! Yuck…. that sounded revolting. But it’s true, they might just fall back asleep. While I’m on-call these nights, daddy is sleeping well, snoring through the night! HAHA

Finally this morning at 4.50 am, the little one decides to give me a morning call. He had switched on my bedside lamp, and started poking into my tightly closed eyelids…. “Can you open your eyes mummy” I thought I must have heard that a few times before it registered that someone was poking into my eyes. I jolted up and he went “Can you open your eyes and make ‘nen-nen’ (milk in chinese) for me?” Okay sweetie pie, anything for you, half asleep, went to the kitchen to get his bottle of milk. He fell back to sleep after his bottle of milk, I was wide awake. Did some laundry and waited for sunrise…. What a day!

We had a relatively quiet and fun weekend. All started from Friday night, was raining, so we thought we’d stay in and watch some TV, and just pig out. Bought some really yummy Thai/Malay dishes from Vichuda in DU. Just sat infront of the telly and finished about 6-7 episodes of Boston Legal. It was good fun just spending time with Darren and Ian.

Since we’ve got a potluck party to celebrate our friend’s housewarming, I thought of preparing a cold dish. Relatively simple to prepare, and everything can be done in the morning, just the last minute decorating on the platter. Turned out quite a success, considering it being my first time at this dish. Husband was impressed that his wife could whip up something apart from potato & chicken!! He even asked, “hey… what are we bringing to Iwen’s house tonight?” First time I didn’t have to answer “Let’s go pack something …. “. Not bad eh? Check out the photo of my cold dish below.

Yummy cold chicken, with prawns & some century eggs.
Sunday started out with a little “sisterly” outing with my sister Audrey. We had a fun time walking the aisle of Bangsar Village Grocer’s. Also visited the Curve’s bazaar, and bought a few cutesy items. Since Ian woke up from his nap with a slight fever, we stayed in again for dinner and enjoyed some yummy BKT!.

Oh Yes! I’ve managed to train Ian to sit on the trainer seat when doing his “poo-poo”. I hope to do this every weekend or any other opportunity to slowly toilet train him. Even put a small step up for him to access the seat easier. This is what he asked after a few face-crunching moments, “Mommy, can you take for me the car book?” HAHA so here he is, reading his car magazine on the toilet bowl! I could hear him talking to himself “Ooo nice Subaru” yadda yadda yadda…..

                                  ooo *shy*

Something funny to share… Every Wednesday Darren takes the whole morning off to play a round of golf. He claims that the mid-week break comes as a resprite from his clients. So anyways, the poor little wife has to wake up extra early, make sure the laundry is done and hung, before inching her way to Subang then to work. I normally let Ian stay up extra late on Tuesday nights so that when we leave in the morning, he’s probably half asleep when I carry him into the car, and bad mommy can have a peaceful and quiet drive to Subang.

Today, as I was making a turn into the housing estate, the little tyke opened his eyes and started talking with his pacifier still in his mouth (yeap another bad mom trait… need to wean him off soon! any ideas mommies?) And our conversation went like this…

Ian: Mommy, I want to eat McDonald’s egg!
Mommy: Nah, we’re running late, I’ll ask granny to make some for you later okay?
Ian: No…. turn left now.

Mommy puts on her indicator to turn left….

Ian: Now you turn right (pointing at McDonalds)
Ian: Park the car!
Ian: Please take out my seat belt…..

I got Ian out of the car and went into McDonalds to share a Big Breakfast. Walked out RM10 poorer because the tyke bought the toy. Rushed to leave Ian with my in laws, then left for work.

It is times like this I wish I was a stay-at-home-mom…

Yesterday after a short chat with my friend Andrea in UK, I’ve learnt a new recipe, Sweet & Sour pork. One of the Wales’ all-time-favourite-cannot-go-wrong-dish that we have to order whenever we step into a chinese “Big fry” stall. This is our test to see if the stall is worth a second try or not. We’re bad to judge stalls this way, but Who CARES????

I’ll be attempting this dish this weekend, hopefully it’ll be a success and not a flop. We have decided that we will eat at home at least once or twice during the weekends, from 3 weeks ago. This is to save the trouble of cracking our heads on where and what to eat for lunch/dinner. The other plus point is, cooking at home is so much cheaper than having a meal for 2 outside. I make a trip to the wet market with my mom every Saturday, so that’s another plus! Foods fresh. Last week, we had fried prawns, vege, fishball soup and my all time favourite potato with chicken dish. Not bad eh?

I can’t wait for this Saturday trip to the market, and my new adventures in cooking at home!

BTW my dearest husband, if you’re reading this…. I need a bigger refrigerator!

Received an sms early yesterday morning about Mr Ong’s passing.

I was at my first employment, a publication company when I first met this man. At our office, he would always be in his room, which I soon shared with after a few months after my probation. Always looking busy and stressed up, with a cigarette hanging from his mouth, penning his articles. You see, everyone of us had a PC to work on, but he being his age, only trusted his good ol’ pen and paper. After he finishes, the pieces of papers, very nicely with page numbers would then be passed on to me, to be typed into MS Word.

Finally after much persuasion from his daughter and us (especially me!) he gave in and started using the computer to do his articles. One thing that I remember most was…. Each time he wanted to type something, I would have to boot the PC, open a Word document, pre-save the doc in proper filenames then he would start typing. Once he’s done, he’ll yell for me to save the work, and turn off the PC, then he’s off for his assignment mostly at hotels.

I indirectly became his assistant, making phonecalls for him in between doing my articles. He was always telling me stories and philosophies of life. What was right and wrong. He was a good mentor. Always gave me the drive to strive harder in life.

Indeed, he was a great and respected man, and today as I flip through the newspaper, I look at his obituary, at his face, his name, then humming to the tune of “Amazing Grace”….

May you rest in Peace, Mr Ong.

It’s been a while since I last updated my blog.

Malaysia’s just celebrated 49 years of independence. Somehow the “kancheong-ness” of having to wake up early on 31st August to watch the parade has subsided, eversince my last participation in the National Day parade for my school band some 18 years back! Geez! that’s an awfully long time, I must have been in one of the lower forms in Secondary School.

So the three of us and my sister decided to have lunch at a nearby shopping mall, but alas! cars from ALL direction and different shapes and sizes were trying to make their way into the Carpark. We detoured and headed to another shopping mall. Found a carpark in a short period of time, but we had to stand in queue for a good 20 minutes before we were seated and ordered our lunch. Yup! We had Japanese on National Day! How un-patriotic!!

Since I took a day off from work on Friday, to make it a long break, I had to make sure that my fridge is well stocked with Ian’s yoghurt, fresh produce and whatnots… Brought Ian to do some grocery shopping before his nap time. Was such a darling, sitting in the shopping cart, not making noise and I finished my grocery shopping within 1/2 hrs! Got home and he fell asleep immediately. Eventhough I was on leave, we couldn’t do much, our lovely breadwinner had to work! But I’m glad that I spent really good QT with Ian, did some cooking, and most of all, had my Xbox souped up!

I told Darren, “We’re officially couch potatoes”.

With the hours and hours of shows in the Xbox, I’m sure we’ll be saving alot of shopping money and spending more time at home! Which… is supposed to be good. We always complaint that we spend too little time in the living room…. And I’ve got my old friend and his wife to thank for! Hey…. if you’re reading this, we’ve already gotten our remote control and can manouvre the menu easier now!!!

Now Ian’s gotta slowly learn how to use the new Media template on the Xbox….
