those good old days when you were young, carefree and nothing matters except for exams? No bottles to sterilize, no diapers to buy and wailing babies to pacify.

Kelab Shah Alam Selangor or fondly known as KSAS. We were members since 1986 and we would go to the club every weekend, or rather every evening for our swim training sessions. Yes, everynight, we would do about 50-60 laps of the 50 metres pool, and participate and represent our club in swim meets. Those were the fun days. We had our group of friends, became close buddies until we stopped going there after we outgrew our membership at 18yrs.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to re-visit my old hangout. I had a wedding dinner to attend, and when I saw the venue in the invitation, I got all excited, and so hyped up, I could see and bring my son and hubby to the place where I grew up. Much has changed, but the Minangkabau facade is still the distinct feature of the club and especially the lobby area. I will not say much, and let the pictures speak. Didn’t take much, just a few to remember by…

The lobby of the club and the phonebooth that we used to hang out at.

Received an sms early yesterday morning about Mr Ong’s passing.

I was at my first employment, a publication company when I first met this man. At our office, he would always be in his room, which I soon shared with after a few months after my probation. Always looking busy and stressed up, with a cigarette hanging from his mouth, penning his articles. You see, everyone of us had a PC to work on, but he being his age, only trusted his good ol’ pen and paper. After he finishes, the pieces of papers, very nicely with page numbers would then be passed on to me, to be typed into MS Word.

Finally after much persuasion from his daughter and us (especially me!) he gave in and started using the computer to do his articles. One thing that I remember most was…. Each time he wanted to type something, I would have to boot the PC, open a Word document, pre-save the doc in proper filenames then he would start typing. Once he’s done, he’ll yell for me to save the work, and turn off the PC, then he’s off for his assignment mostly at hotels.

I indirectly became his assistant, making phonecalls for him in between doing my articles. He was always telling me stories and philosophies of life. What was right and wrong. He was a good mentor. Always gave me the drive to strive harder in life.

Indeed, he was a great and respected man, and today as I flip through the newspaper, I look at his obituary, at his face, his name, then humming to the tune of “Amazing Grace”….

May you rest in Peace, Mr Ong.

zel1.JPGEver since I started working, I used to look forward to Fridays… simply because I know the weekend is coming & I can go out! Nah, I wasn’t the type who would go out partying late, but I used to go out for drinks / dinner with my best friend Jenn.

Yesterday as I was reminiscing old times with my other friend Andrea who’s now in London, it suddenly brought back so much memories, our days in the publishing company that we were in, how three of us, Jenn, Andrea and I once went to Toys ‘R us during lunch to get really cheap rollerblades, and our little “test” outing in the famous Iguanas in BSC many moons ago. It was these kinda girl-friend friendship that I liked most. We could talk about anything and everything under the sun. We even had our “specialised” calendars… remember? I still have that in my drawer. What I loved best was our Company trip in Gem Isle, off Terengganu on the East coast of Malaysia, where we had our sun tan, my “iron” on my back and gosh… the drinks!

I could list a million things that we’ve gone through together, and I’m sure it would go on endless. Just feeling a little soft spot here, now that Jenn and family has moved to Seattle, and Andrea and the boys are way over in London. I gotta look on the bright side, I’ve got good pals on each end of the world and my family over here.

I’m happy…
